Miscellany Monday

{one}  Well - I marked another big item off my 101 in 1001 this weekend - which turned out to be a pretty big F.A.I.L.  The Tide fell to South Carolina.  Which should be bad enough.  Losing our #1 ranking and having to fight like mad the rest of the season for a shot at a second national title is never a good thing.  But the loss was the least of it.  I have never in my life experienced such poor sportsmanship, profanity and disrespect as what we endured at the hands of the South Carolina fans on Saturday.  After four quarters of being cussed out, screamed at and mocked, I was literally in tears as we left the stadium.  It was disgusting - too awful to event recount.  I'm still mulling over my feelings about this one and I think that a "Letter To The Editor" at ESPN, Sports Illustrated and any other sport related publication that I can find will be sent off later this week.  I am embarrassed to be a fan of the SEC after what I witnessed from South Carolina fans on Saturday.  Disgusting.

{two}  My pastor preached a sermon yesterday about Gluttony.  Whew - did that one hit home.  I discovered not only am I gluttonous in my eating habits, but also in my spending habits, and my general desire to collect more and more stuff. Simply put, I live a life of excess.  So God and I are working through some issues this week and I am earnestly praying that He will reveal ways in which I can trim back my eating/spending habits in order to live a life of discipline and control.

{three}  Vegetable beef soup is in the crockpot as we speak (or type!)  Number one - I love crockpot meals.  It's so liberating to know that dinner will be ready the moment I walk through the door.  Number two - I love vegetable beef soup.  I perfectly balanced Zone approved meal that is yummy and satisfying!  :)

{four} Boo for being at work on Columbus Day.  :(

{five} Even though my boys suffered a tough loss on Saturday - I'm still a devoted fan!  :) :)

{six} I forgot to post the winner of the Designs By Kelsea giveaway on Friday.  Results to be posted later this afternoon - I promise!!!

Awww!! Love your dog's sweaters!!! So cute!!! My dog HATES sweaters or any clothes I try to put her in. She just sits there and looks at me and won't move a muscle until I take it off of her. ;)

I'm at work too!!! I hope you have a great day!

Sorry your first game was not a wonderful experience. Some fans ruin it. I hate that people act ignorant like that. It should be about sportsmanship and fun...it's a game! Although you hate to lose, it should be done with respect.

Hope you enjoy your yummy dinner! I love the crockpot!!!

I can totally relate to your 2, 3, and 4 comments! LOVE crockpot meals. Will you share your veggie soup recipe? Also, I too struggle with gluttonous acts with food and shopping. It's a constant battle, isn't it?

So what is up with South Carolina fans? Last year at a Kentucky vs. South Carolina basketball game they were terrible. I wasn't at the game (it was in SC) but even watching on tv and later reading about it I couldn't believe it.

We play them next weekend so we'll try to take them out for you - although its unlikely because UK has never beaten Steve Spurrier. I know it's no fun to lose, but I bet its a lot more fun to be a Bama fan than a UK fan :)

Lame of them for having bad sportsmanship. That always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Those pups look cute as heck!

Ugh Philadelphia fans are the same way! Sorry it was such a bad experience!

And I too love crockpot meals. Too bad I seldom make the effort beforehand to reap the rewards after. Sigh.

And I'm at work too. Ugh. So not cool.

Happy monday regardless!

That is so crazy that your pastor preached on gluttony because mine did too! Well, he preached on self control...and gluttony was one of his points. And it's so true, it's not just at the table. I am in an examination stage too! It's always nice to get a "refresher course" and bring some bad habits to life.

And sorry about your bad experience at SC. That's never fun.

As a New Englander married to a South Carolinian, we rooted for SC in the game. I know there was no foul-mouthing going on in our house- don't hold it against all South Carolina fans. I think fnas are out of control in general these days! I know some Alabama fans who have given me a sour taste.

We went to a Padres game {baseball} this summer and the entire time there was a guy mocking the Rockies. Who won. I'm all for calling out faults in other teams when they exist, but keep it clean!

We even had to call the cops on our neighbors who were still throwing the F word around at a hightened volume around 1030 Saturday night- all the games were over {west coast} and they were still at it!

Thats TERRIBLE about how the fans were treating the rival team at the game you went to. I'd definately be writing a letter too! Love the dogs little outfits though..thats the way to show team spirit! :-)

The reason I was pulling for Alabama is because of the horrible way SC fans act! I am a Clemson Fan; at one time I would pull for SC if they were not playing Clemson, but not anymore! They are so rude and obnoxious!

It sickens me the way they treat people and if you are against Carolina they get angry at you! Sorry the TIDE didn’t Roll in! I was sick about it to too!!! Not to mention my Tigers lost to the Tarheels! ;,(

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience at SC. I am a South Carolina fan and was at the game. Where I was sitting, everyone was well mannered, and courteous of Alabama fans sitting next to us. Sure we cheered on the Gamecocks, but were not booing the Tide. . . That's not sportsmanship.

I think you also need to remember that it was a very emotional game with a lot on the line so a lot of people probably got to into it. Honestly, I don't think anyone really expected SC to win. I'm not trying to post a negative comment, just apologizing for your experience and telling you not everyone is like that :) and I'm sure some people leave Alabama (or any opponent stadium for that matter) feeling the same way. Again, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but don't label all of SC.

How sucky...I once went to a Lakers, Celtics game while I was in Boston for school, and it wasn't until after the game that I got trash talked like no other. I guess some people just forget their manners...?

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at the game! My extended family on my mom's side has a lot of USC fans, and while they are die-hard, they aren't mean (although I'm sure you know that kind of behavior doesn't represent everyone)! Hopefully your next away game is much better!

Yuck.. What ruiners. Although some of us are diehard fans to whatever team we follow- there is never any reason to act like that. I'm sorry you had to go through that..

I will add a third BOO (although delayed) to working on Columbus Day.. no bueno!!

So sorry about the game, I just really don't understand all the mean spirited sports fans... whether aimed at their own team, or the rival. It just takes the fun out of the whole sport, and experience!

I would have loved to hear the sermon on gluttony, I have too much time on my hands, and have been extremely excessive in my spending lately. Just your post made me recognize that, so thank you!

And I need to use my crock pot!! They are the best, and I haven't gotten mine out since last winter.

now you know why us Clemson people HATE South Carolina. They really are ridiculous. So much for southern hospitality right?
