Am I Dirty - Or Is This "A Girl Thing"?

In an attempt to welcome the New Year and bring about positive change, I have made a conscious effort to take better care of myself be more presentable each day stop waking up at the very last possible second, throwing on the first thing I grab from my closet and rushing out the door looking like a complete slob each morning. (I mean - there really was no nice way putting that!)

My recent weight loss has brought a renewed sense of self-worth and self confidence.  I wish I could say that I am one of those women who feels gorgeous at any size, but that simply is not the case.  I allowed my weight to get out.of.control during the first six months of 2010 and as a result I pretty much gave up on myself.  However, I am now 15 pounds lighter (and losing more everyday!) and the weight training/intense cardio at CrossFit is slowly changing my body composition so I have become significantly more comfortable in my skin.

As a part of my new "pretty Amber" pledge, I decided it was time to step up my fashion.  Hubby bought me a gorgeous pair of leather riding boots for Christmas and I finally invested in a pair of skinny jeans.  I am proud to announce that I have officially rocked the "boots over the jeans" look.

Which brings me to my question......

I found an outfit on the clearance rack at Target last Thursday evening.  I'm in love.  Nothing too special - just a pair of jeggings and a brown large button cardigan that goes perfectly with my new boots.  Match that with my new large, brown drop earrings and I managed to put together quite a fashionable outfit.  I felt like it said, "I'm old enough to know how to dress for my body - but young enough to look damn good doing it!"

So, of course, I wore the new outfit to work on Friday.  My female coworkers immediately commented on my chic appearance.  As soon as I got home, I changed into PJ's and settled in for a quite night with hubby.

Saturday evening, my closest friends and I had a "girl's night" planned at a friend's house.  The "old" Amber would have thrown on jeans and t-shirt and ran out the door; however, the "new" Amber felt like being pretty.  I stared at my closet trying to determine what to wear as my mind kept flashing back to Friday's outfit - my new, fun outfit.

After about a minute of internal struggle as to whether it would completely disgusting for me to wear the same outfit two days in a row - I threw the jeggings/cardigan in the dryer for a quick refresher.  Five minutes later I was dressed and out the door in exactly the same outfit (minus socks) that I had worn the day before.

I mean - it's not like I was doing lunges or anything at work on Friday.  I didn't wear the outfit out to dinner or to some smokey bar....just straight home.  But I can't help but wonder - does this make the smelly kid?  I mean, I know it's okay to wear the same sweatshirt two days in a row or pajama pants two nights in a row (or at least I hope it is!) but is it acceptable to wear the same outfit two days in a row if you are around two completely different groups of people (and if it's your new favorite outfit?)

I really pray I'm not the only woman who has done this and that it really is acceptable...otherwise, I may be the new smelly kid on the block!

I am so happy for you. Seriously, this post made my smile.

I will wear jeans and cardis again. Jeans usually get 2-3 uses before I wash them. Camis, undies, tshirts, blouses...those always get washed after the first wear.

Dude I totally re-wear outfits if I feel like I came up with a good one! (pats myself on the back) I see nothing wrong with it!

Oh, I would totally do it. I love the "I'm old enough..." quote there :) I feel the same way. It feels SO good to finally know what my personal style is finally and to know what I look best in. :)

xx

I'd do it too.

I definitely re-wear outfits! Especially if it was something I wore to work, I sit at a desk all day so it's hard to mess that outfit up! haha Congrats to you on your weight loss! :)

Oh, I rewear all the time! If I wear something cute to work, it definitely makes a 2nd appearance on the weekend.

I'm so happy for you. My brother-in-law is a Crossfit fanatic, so I tried it, but it was sooo freaking hard. My hats off to you for being able to stick with it!

I wear outfits a second time on occasion. Sometimes jeans a third time if I wasn't sweating or doing anything dirty. No smelly kid for you :) I think you're in the clear!

I think if most women are being honest, we've all done it!

Oh Amber, you crack me up!!

I see NOTHING wrong with doing this.. That's what dryers are for right? haha. I wear jeans 2 and 3 times before washing them. You're not the smelly kid at all :)

Cheryl said...

I re-wear too! And it sounds like you rocked a great outfit there too! :)

I'm definitely not ashamed to wear the same thing two days in a row if I didn't get full use out of it! No worries!

Oh-and I wear pj pants twice in a row too so if that's wrong I don't wanna be right!

Have a great day!

Oh girl! This does NOT make you a slob or smelly. I wear jeans over and over and wash them every weekend. If I dont sweat or go to a smokey bar I will hang them up! AND if I got a new outfit...I will ROCK it over and over! Haha. I am pretty sure all of us ladies do the same :)

Umm right there with ya.... I wear jeans several times before I was them and if I only wore a shirt a few hours or didnt sweat in it NOOO need to wash!! Your not alone :)

Amanda Leigh said...

eh work clothes dont count! I mean HOW dirty can they get sitting at a desk all day? And besides... you took it off when you got home, so it didnt get its nights wear out of it!
I do it all the time... esp with my work tops.
Ummm I wear the same pj pants for like a week... is that wrong?!

It's totally fine! I rewear clothes (jeans, sweaters, etc.) a few times in between washings. Otherwise they fall apart or stretch or fade so quickly. You are NOT the smelly girl! But I'm so happy for you with the weight loss and feeling good about yourself!

Anne said...

I would totally do that! But I am also the girl who judges whether she needs a shower based on how greasy my hair looks so I may not be the best judge. But I love that you are looking and feeling great!

Sarah said...

Oh, I totally do that! Especially if it's a new outfit that I'm in love with! I usually wear jeans 2-3 times before I wash them. Cardigans? Well, I say same rule. =) I also wear pj pants more than one night. All you're doing is sleeping in them!

Oh, I totally do this too. Especially if it's a new favorite outfit. We recently bought a new washer and dryer and our dryer has a "steam cycle" which is made for refreshing outfits & taking any scent out of them to re-wear! Crazy right?? So I'd say they invented this cycle for many other women out there too. I can say though, that I've yet to throw something in to the steam cycle to remove scents.

Oh, my friend, I do this too. No holds barred. We can be smelly kids together!

Girl, I do this all the time! As long as it's not dirty, I'll wear it again before I wash it.

I hate doing laundry. :)

Rissy said...

oh wow I have done that more than once... oh and guess what my Mom does it too and her cleanly-ness verges on OCD.

I also wear the same outfit as many times as possible but all in front of different groups of friends and aquaintences.

I am so exciting for your renewed love of you. How great! I need some of that.

As far as I'm concerned, this is totally acceptable! At least, I hope it is as I have been VERY guilty! =)

BTW, congrats on the weightloss! I definitely agree that I feel much prettier at something close to my goal weight!

Kelly said...

Oh Girl, the only things I wash everytime I wear tem are undies, bra's & socks...as long as you were not with the same people no worries (and you didn't actually wear smelly clothes) you are not the smelly kid!!!!

LOL - this post really brightened my day..you should def post a before & after pic

I don't think you're the smelly kid -- otherwise so am I. As long as the same group of people isn't seeing it and it isn't dirty, I say it is perfectly acceptable =)

Chardonnay said...

I'd absolutely do it! I just smell the pits and if they smell fine you're good to go :D

Megan said...

You are definitely NOT alone! I wear the same jeans over and over! I would definitely have rocked the same outfit since it was different people!!

Marian said...

I do it all the time too!! I see it as you are saving money and water reusing it:) And I think its completely acceptable!

Ashley said...

Haha...love this post Amber! You aren't the smelly kid at all. Apparently it's quite normal to do this, I know I do for sure. If it's not actually dirty why not?!

Jessica said...

First of all, you go girl. Rock those skinny jeans and jeggings. That's my goal!

I don't think your gross in the least. I wear the same thing twice in a row a lot if it was only on for a few and I didn't get gross. :)

Nicole said...

O I definitely do it too, especially jeans and cardis! Anything else I don't, but those are a definite!

Rebekah said...

As long as I didn't do anything to get dirty or feel gross in them, I totally re-wear things! Certain things. Let's not get carried away here.

Café Moka said...

I totally do the same!!!! (when I'm not around the same people of course!)

Karren said...

Well if that makes you the smelly kid I guess I am too because I re-wear outfits all the time (if I wasn't sweating or doing anything dirty)! :)

Mateya said...

Haha you are too funny! I definitely wear jeans more than once before I was them! And I say if you find an outfit you love you gotta take advantage of times you can show it off :)

Tori Bella said...

Ha! I would've done the exact same thing - except I would've washed it after buying it on Thursday (because I ALWAYS wash things before wearing them). And I probably would've pressed them with an iron. But no, it's not gross, it's a girl thing.

Your post just made me smile, and it motivated me as well. I miss that confident-in-my-skin feeling. I'm currently in the other category of feeling heavy and dumpy. You know how when you feel fat in everything and you don't want to wear anything but stretchy sweats? Yeah, I'm there.

Anywho...

I'd totally rewear a cute outfit!! I can't put cute outfits together to save my life, so if I actually managed to do to, I'd totally wear it more than once!!

Sonya said...

I've done the same thing! I often wear something to church and then wear it to school the next day. I always feel gross after a day around the kids so I might as well get some use out of it!

Jordan said...

I think you're good! I'd totally do the same thing! Maybe that makes me the smelly kid too, though- lol!

And so exciting to see the change it's all made in you! :)

Leah @ Everyday Love said...

I do this too-especially with jeans. Congrats on all your hard work recently!

Unknown said...

First of all, we want to see pictures of your gorgeous, sexy, self..and girl, I do that all the time! If I only wore the outfit a little while the night before, and I'm going to see a whole different crowd the next day I'll totally wear the same outfit twice! Nobody knows the difference! ;)

Leah said...

Totally agree with everyone else. That's not gross or dirty at all! Congratulations on all of that weight loss too!

I totally feel you on actually taking some time to care about your appearance in the morning. I started setting out my outfit the night before and putting a lot of thought into my fashion choices, and really fixing my hair and makeup (simple yet polished). Ever since I've started that, I've gotten tons of compliments, including from my high school students (you know you did something right when they notice and the girls are loving your outfits). And it's totally ok to re-wear an outfit ;)
