Housework Tuesday!

I have decided to create a weekly post titled “Housework Tuesday.” You know kind of like Margarita Monday or Champagne Thursday, only maybe a little less fun! Each week I will chronicle the challenges of keep a clean home as well as share tips I have found or amazing cleaning supplies I have stumbled upon. I hope other bloggers are inspired to share tidbits of valuable information as well!

For my debut entry, I would like to complain about housework! It really is my least favorite aspect of being a wife/newlywed. When Steven and I purchased our first home, I was thrilled. I was incredibly motivated to keep our home immaculate at all times. Now, a year and half later, let’s just say my enthusiasm for cleanliness has waned slightly. I know, I know, cleanliness is next to Godliness and all the stuff…but really, who enjoys laundry and doing dishes?? I enjoy having a clean home and feeling of accomplishment I feel when my house looks great. I do not, however, enjoy spending two hours cleaning my hardwoods! I swear, the more I clean, the dirtier my house gets.

For example, what is the deal with laundry?!?! I can spend an entire Saturday washing load after load and folding basket after basket. After I hang the last article of clothing in my closet, I breathe a sigh of relief. Whew! I sleep easy that night knowing that I can rest easy for the next couple of day as my closet is under control. But then, somehow I wake up two days later and everything is a disaster again. How is this possible?!?! It’s like gremlins come into our home while hubby and I are at work, try on every piece of clothing we own and scatter them all around our bedroom. I swear! I find dirty clothes in the closet that I haven’t worn in ages! Maybe Dixie and Bauer are pulling our clothes of the hanger and laying on them when we aren’t looking? I honestly do not understand how two people can manage to go through so many clothes each week.

To make matters worse, I despise folding clothes. I don’t really mind the sorting and the washing part (thank goodness for the industrial revolution and washing machines!) It’s the folding and putting away part the drives me crazy. Steven becomes exasperated with me because I will wash all my clothes and leave them in the “clean clothes basket” until I want to wear them again. It really is a very clever way to avoid folding your clothes! Thankfully, hubby is *very* particular about the way he likes his clothes folded. Shortly after we were married, we agreed (it possibly was more like argued) that if he did not like the way I folded his clothes, then he could fold his own clothes. And I have not folded a single thing of his since. :) But still, if only I didn’t have to fold my own clothes – that would be so nice!

So now that I have complained about how much I hate doing laundry, I realize that I have piles of it waiting at home for me. Maybe I will wash and fold while watching 90210 tonight. A girl has to find a way to bring some entertainment into an otherwise torturous evening!

Happy Housework Tuesday!

I love this idea! I can't wait to see what you post!

For the past few years I have been following The Fly Lady to help keep my house clean. This year I purchased a yearly chore calendar from Motivated Moms (you do not have to be a mom to use it!)it has helped out big time! It makes keeping the house clean much easier!

Boy oh boy, you sounded like me all the way up to the hubby folding his own clothing, haha, he has never folded a thing in his life (only child).
I will leave the clean clothing on the bed for a week sometimes, while I'm doing dirty laundry, I'm folding last weeks clean laundry and then I'm too tired to fold the newly clean laundry, it's a viscous circle!

I can't wait to see what you post, Lord knows I love to clean and have a clean home, I just get so frustrated at how fast it gets dirty :x

The website is motivatedmoms.com, but I found this page

http://www.joyfulabode.com/2009/01/10/the-motivated-moms-planner-rocks-and-im-not-a-mom/

when I googled it and it shows you a sample of the calendar. You can also view other PDF forms of the calendar on the website. It's not a fancy website, but basically you purchase the calendar and they email it to you. You have 48 hours (I think) to save it and you can print out as much or little as you like at a time. I promise, it's fantastic!

I hate folding laundry and I hate, hate, hate dishes. Anytime Hubby is home he does dishes for me so when he's gone, I find it very hard to do them... and I only do it when I have to because there's no more clean dishes. Lol. I love that picture, by the way :)

Lets go with Sorting Socks Saturday! I have a basket for all those socks that don't match! And about once a year, I throw them all away that don't match and go out and buy new ones.

Oh joy, gotta run, just heard the dryer buzzer go off, now time to put more in the dryer and match up those white socks. Had to wash that sports bra so I wouldn't end up like the smelly one....

I know how you feel. I dno't understand the laundry thing, either. It mystifies me. My laundry basket is overflowing as we speak. It's really depressing. Fun idea!

We must be kindred spirits. I hate hate hate doing laundry. You would think I'd be used to it after four kids and all these years of marriage, but nope...still despise it. It is a necessary evil. I finally started making my kids (ages 11, 13, 16, 17) do their own laundry. Now I only have to do about 4 loads a week as opposed to 10-12 loads a week. And I agree...folding is the worst part! By the way, Melaleuca makes a product called Revive. You can spray it on your clothes to get the wrinkles out. I go through tons of it. LOL
