Hold On

I’ve decided to forgo “Housework Tuesday” this week as I wanted to share a song that has brought me inspiration the past few days and I just need a little pick-me-up today – so I’m hoping that by “putting this out there” I will find some much needed strength. I promise “Housework Tuesday” will be back next week.

Things have been a little stressful the past few months for Steven and me. It’s nothing to do with our relationship – it’s just that life has kind of been kicking us in the stomach repeatedly. I am beginning to realize (unfortunately) that this is just a part of being married and a homeowner. Heaters break, cars breakdown, puppies get sick, work becomes stressful, and there’s never enough “quality time” in your day. I am slowly accepting this, but my acceptance doesn’t change the fact that sometimes it’s difficult to keep your head up.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Michael Buble. And yesterday morning, after kissing my husband goodbye and sending him to Indianapolis for another week spent apart, I decided to play a little Michael on my way to work – hoping for a quick pick me up. The second song on my playlist was “Hold On” – in the front seat of my car, while driving through Charlotte on roads covered in ice, I broke down crying. The lyrics overpowered me.

                           HOLD ON
Didn't they always say we were the lucky ones?
I guess that we were once
Babe, we were once

But luck will leave you cause
It is a faithless friend
And in the end when life has got you down
You've got someone here that you can wrap your arms around

So hold on to me tight
Hold on to me tonight
We are stronger here together
Than we could ever be alone
So hold on to me
Don't you ever let me go

There's a thousand ways for things to fall apart
But it's no one's fault
No it's not my fault

Maybe all the plans we made would not work out
But I have no doubt even though it's hard to see
I've got faith in us and I believe in you and me

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it'll be alright
Cause it's you and me together
And baby all we've got is time
So hold on to me, hold on to me tonight

There's so many dreams that we have given up
Take a look at all we've got
And with this kind of love
What we've got here is enough

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it'll be alright
Cause we are stronger here together
Then we could ever be alone
Just hold on to me
Don't you ever let me go
Hold on to me, it's gonna be alright
Hold on to me tonight
*They always say we were the lucky ones*

While listening to the beautiful melody, I realized that we are “the lucky” ones. Despite the difficult times that may come and go, we have one another. There have been many times during our six and half years together that Steven and I felt like “it’s us against the world.” And every time we have gone through one of those times, we’ve come out the other side stronger and more deeply in love. My safe place is in his arms. My strength comes from knowing that he is there to catch me should I fall. I am so blessed to have found my best friend in a man that loves me, protects me and puts my needs and desires above his own. I feel note worthy every time he looks at me. I would walk to hell and back for him and do it all over again if that’s what being with him required.

I believe in him and I believe in his dreams. I find myself daydreaming about him playing catch in the backyard with a son that looks just like him. I look forward to our future together, our dream home, our children and grandchildren. I know that God has a purpose for our life together. I know that Steven is my destiny on earth and being with him is a part of my life’s validation. Through all the unknowns and what ifs, through the breakdowns and heartaches, I will hold on…because *we are the lucky ones*

Aww <3
That's so true. Sometimes it's hard to not get caught up in the everyday monotony that is life but when you step back and look at it, as an outsider... you can see how lucky you are. ~xx~

Ohhhhh this post is just beautiful! I love it. I love love. I love how strong it makes our souls and it is even better when we have that perfect person to share it with.
Sometimes it is us and our significant others against the world... and while that is always the hardest, it is also the best to know that you have that someone backing you up!!
Love it Amber :)

Amber this is so sweet I really almost started to tear up because I fell the same way girl my hubby and I have been through some really tough times I mean all I would like to do is just go on a vaca and spend quality time with him but that won't pay the bills and that doesn't pay for the car and everything else so. I know when he leaves for the army I'm going to be so sad but excited at the same time..But I can say that I am very blessed to have my health.husband.family and friends..

Awww, that is so sweet!

My hubby and I get to feeling down when things keep going wrong, but then when you hear a song like that or see something heartbreaking on the news, you start to feel more blessed about the good things in your life.

You're so gosh darn stinkin' cute! But seriously, I love Michael Buble (even though I'm still mad at him for cheating on Emily Blunt) and I LOVE that song!

Beautiful post. I love that you realize how important you and your hubby are to each other. It is different being newlyweds and trying to make all the hassles of life fit together perfectly. We go through those patches too!

I can't believe you weren't here for the snow! Ahh!!! I hate they cancelled school on Monday, but I loved getting to sleep in and hang out!
